The police are going into this situation with a heightened sense of danger. It was reported that this boy, when ordered to stop and surrender, instead pulled out a pellet gun that is a very good replica of the same gun used by officers and started to point it at the police. In this case, based on what has been reported thus far, it would seem like this was a proper police response. Every time we play air soft with boys, we always remind them that the guns we use look just like real guns and therefore the first thing we should do when an officer shows up is drop them and show our hands to the officers. Then we can explain we are playing air soft and let them confirm this with their own inspection. We do this since we are dressed in camo and this has sometimes concerned others who see us playing.
